Pulchowk climbs to fourth place

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club on Sunday defeated Pulchowk Sports Club 2-1 to climb on fourth place in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division Football League being held at Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj.



Following a goalless first half, Pulchowk opened the scoring in the 74th minute through Mangal Maharjan.[break]



Phurba Tshering Yonjan hit the equalizer for Sankata in the 89th minute. But Laxman Chaudhary hit the winner for Pulchowk in the 90th minute.



With its fifth win, Pulchowk garnered equal 18 points as that of third placed Madhyapur and climbed two spot above.



Madhyapur has an upper hand on the basis of goal superiority and both of them have played equal nine matches.



Sankata dropped one position below to sixth with 15 points. Meanwhile, ANFA has called off Monday´s matches citing technical reasons.



Lissanevitch sets up title clash with Joshi



Aslesha Lissanevitch set up a title clash with Anuska Joshi in the girls´ U-16 category of the 10th Jaykar Memorial Junior National Open Tennis Tournament after both won their respective matches on Sunday.



Lissanevitch beat Bhibhuti Karki 6-0, 6-1 in the first semifinal while Joshi overcame Anuska Malla 6-1, 6-1in two straight sets.



In the U-16 boys´ category, Ivan Hoe Lissanevitch, Avishek Bastola and Bhramand Singh Moktan advanced into quarterfinals. Lissanevitch saw off Avi Shrestha 6-2, 6-2, Bastola defeated Finso Lama 6-0, 6-1 and Moktan fought back from second set down to register a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Yeoram Lee.



In the U-10 girls´ singles, Khushi Pandey, Kauna Gauchan, Era M Raut and Utshavi Joshi won their respective matches to secure the semifinal spots. Pandey defeated Avilasha Bista 8-1, Gauchan thrashed Nima Gauchan 8-0, Raut crushed Riyasa Baidhye 8-2 and Joshi overpowered Medhavi Giri 8-1.



In the U-14 boys´ singles, Sundar KC thumped Myles Goodman 6-1, 6-0 for the quarterfinal spot. In the same age category, Kaustup Pandey, Anjan Thing, Jiwan Gharti Magar and Antony Colavsto fixed their quarterfinal berths. Pandey pounded Andy Nyssenegger 6-2, 6-0, Thing defeated Surya Kumar 6-1, 6-3, Gharti Magar registered a 6-3, 6-0 win over Aryan Maskey and Colavsto edged past Dipesh Hamal 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.



In the U-14 girls´ singles, Bhibhuti Karki defeated Sofiya Shah 6-1, 6-1, Mayanka Rana bounced back from a first set defeat to register a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win over Suchita Satyal. In the same age category, Bijisha Shrestha thumped Siwalika Rana 6-3, 6-3 and Manjita Nyachole registered a hard-fought win over Mahika Rana with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.



In the U-10 boys´ category, Satyap Illme, Shris Tripathi, Deep Rana, Bistrit Gurung, Samyak Bhusan Bajracharyam, Rigdev Singh, Sworaj Subedi and Suman Lama advanced into the quarterfinals.



Galaxy in quarters



Galaxy College on Sunday advanced into the quarterfinals of The Professional Gyan Carnival Inter-college Basketball Tournament in the boys´ section.



In the match played on the home court of Gyanodaya College, Sanepa, Galaxy defeated Liverpool 22-17 to secure quarterfinal place as the runner-up of Group C.



Anjan Shrestha scored 16 points for Galaxy. Bernhardt had already qualified for the quarterfinals as group winner.



In the other match of same category, Golden Gate thrashed Rato Bangala 65-17 as Bishal Gurung netted 20 points for the winning team.



In the girls´ category, Bernhardt beat Rato Bangala 36-18 with 16 points from Pooja Thapa Magar.



Wilson, Teresa triumph



Wilson Academy and Teresa School registered two wins each in their respective matches in senior boys´ category of Second Valley-wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Sunday.



Wilson thrashed Nawa Jyoti 41-29 and in another match it defeated Gyan Mala 24-13. Teresa thrashed Opel 51-35 and Deneb 38-8. In other matches, Nepal Central School beat HEMS 26-17.


Big wins for Police, Army schools



Nepal Police School and Army School, Bhaktapur registered wins on Sunday in the 20th Inter-school IGP Football Running Trophy organized by Nepal Police Higher Secondary School, Sanga.



In its first match of the league round, Nepal Police School A thrashed Kathmandu University School, Dhulikhel 5-0. In the last league match, Sainik School routed LRI 10-0.
