About 100 medical students pursuing MBBS and MD/MS Degrees at the IoM had reached Baluwatar, the official residence of PM Koirala, to submit the memorandum. The protesting students submitted the memo to PM Koirala through his close aide Mridula Koirala and requested her to draw the PM's attention."We have requested her to ask PM Koirala to take initiatives of talks with Dr KC," said a medical student, Suman Acharya, who has been supporting Dr KC's cause.
Dr KC, a senior professor at the IoM, has been staging fast-unto-death demanding implementation of the 11-point deal reached between him and the government in order to reform the medical education sector.
Hundreds of patients, who reached Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) from across the country, have been deprived of health services on Monday as well, as the resident doctors at the hospital shunned their duty for the second consecutive day to show solidarity with Dr KC's cause.
Resident doctors at the TUTH stopped their services at the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the hospital from Sunday for an "indefinite period" to extend their support to Dr KC as his health condition started worsening.
Doctors attending to Dr KC informed that his health condition has been deteriorating fast. Dr KC had already staged hunger strike six times in the past.
Dr KC resorted to seventh hunger strike after the government failed to form an Educational Commission headed by the prime minister as per the agreement. The government formed a commission but appointed education minister as the chairperson.
