Even though the government had withdrawn its decision last Friday to move service centers of the Land Survey and Land Revenue Offices to Chandranigahapur, the death of a local protestor Ashish Thakur had enraged the residents of the area. Till date, 130 people including security personnel have been injured in the clashes between the agitators and the policemen.
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer (CDO) Madan Bhujel told Republica that local administration is ready to fulfill the key demands put forth by deceased Thakur's family and agitators. However, local party activists are bent on politicizing the case and refusing to call off their protests.
District Administration Office (DAO) of Rautahat has forwarded the proposal on declaring deceased Thakur as a martyr, arrangement of employment for a family members and compensation of half a million rupees to the bereaved family.
"The agitators have refused to roll back the protest even though the administration has already forwarded their demands to higher authorities," said CDO Bhujel.
According to him, the deceased's son Ram Prasad is playing into the hands of political party activists and unable to decide anything on his own.
As per the family, they would not perform the last rites of deceased Thakur unless final decisions are made on their demands such as declaring Thakur a martyr and ensuring employment for one of his family member.
