KATHMANDU, Feb 8: An get-together of central, regional, district and town Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) that concluded in the capital on Wednesday has urged the government to promote local industries and implement development programs based on their business potentials.

Participants extensively discussed the role of CCI to implement self-employment and one ´district, one product´ programs, apart from investment opportunities at the district level during the Investment Year 2012-13. [break]

Representatives from different district and town CCIs stressed the need to boost production of local products by introducing new technology.

They also suggested the government should promote investments in hotels and tunnel roads, promote organic vegetable farming and commercial livestock farming, and encourage investments in medical colleges at a time when the government is making final preparations to observe 2012-13 as the Investment Year.

Bhawani Rana, vice-president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), underlined the need for collective effort among local CCIs to mobilize local resources for local development.

Punya Prasad Regmi, vice-chairman of Youth and Small Entrepreneurs Self-employment Fund, urged district and town CCIs to extend cooperation in formulating local level priority projects.

Suresh Kumar Basnet, president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, underscored the necessity to identify projects, which can be implemented as joint ventures.
