KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Professor Prem Bahadur Chalaune at the Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Sociology has written to the ambassadors of the United States and Australia to Nepal, pleading for action against two of his assailants who have fled to the countries.
Chalaune sent a letter each to the US Ambassador Dean R. Thompson and Australian Ambassador Leann Johnston on Friday, requesting action against Hari Prasad Acharya and Niraj Rana Magar, respectively.
Provide Justice to Prem Chalaune
Professor Chalaune was attacked brutally by seven assailants wielding metal rods and bamboo shoots rendering him unconscious on October 6, 2020. In 2023, the Kathmandu District Court slapped the assailants, including Acharya and Magar, with a prison term of two years.
However, Acharya and Magar have been absconding. Chalaune has claimed in his letter that they escaped to the US and Australia using forged documents.
In his letter, professor Chalaune has expressed his dismay over the fact that the two absconding criminals are currently residing in the US and Australia. He has requested the ambassadors to determine the status of the convicted culprits and deport them back to Nepal. He has also sent a photo of the assailants and the verdict of the Kathmandu District Court to the ambassadors.
