Prof Subedi in British Foreign Secy advisory group

KATHMANDU, Nov 12: British Foreign Secretary William Hague has nominated Professor Surya Subedi as a member of his human rights advisory group of 13 eminent personalities.



The British Foreign Secretary established the Rights Advisory Group on Tuesday to give him the best possible information about human rights challenges and input on British policy on human rights.[break]



Professor Subedi, a Nepali citizen, currently teaches at the University of Leeds, UK and is the UN Special Rapporteur for Cambodia.



Upon establishment of the group, the British Foreign Secretary said in a statement posted on the website of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, "Human rights are essential to and indivisible from the UK´s foreign policy priorities."



According to the statement, the individuals in the advisory panel have been invited in a personal capacity to provide external advice on human rights in foreign policy and on options for addressing human rights problems. The advisory group is chaired by Hague himself.
