KATHMANDU, May 2: The private education institutions have decided not to provide holidays for two days a week as decided by the government recently.

The umbrella organizations of private educational institutes such as Private and Boarding School's Organization Nepal (PABSON), Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools' Association Nepal (HISSAN) and National Private and Boarding Schools' Association Nepal (N-PABSON) have stated that a two-day weekend is not acceptable for students.

The organizations said that students’ education would be badly affected and schools and colleges will find it difficult to complete the courses on time if they are provided with two days of holiday a week. The government had earlier decided to provide public holidays on Saturday and Sunday with effect from May 15.

President of PABSON DK Dhungana said it is understandable if the government has decided to provide these holidays temporarily. “The number of other public holidays should be reduced if this new measure is permanent,” he said.

The HISAN has also expressed dissatisfaction over the government's decision to provide public holiday for two days a week without prior discussion with private educational institutions.

As an effort to reduce consumption of fuel which is straining the national economy, the government earlier decided to enforce a two-day holiday a week from May 15.
