TANAHUN, July 1: Landslides that occurred following incessant rainfall since Tuesday evening have disrupted road traffic in different places of the Prithvi Highway.


The landslides taking place in different sections of the 72-km Highway from Anbukhaireni to Kotre has caused disruptions in various parts of the road. According to the information provided by the District Police Office, Tanahun, landslides that occurred near Kumle rivulet in Shuklagandaki Municipality-7 caused disruptions on the highway.

Likewise, landslides that occurred in Byas Municipality-12, Ghabsikuwa and Chhirkan put the road traffic out of gear along the highway, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yubaraj Timilsena of District Police Office, Tanahun. Efforts are currently underway to remove debris and open the highway.


According to him, the highway was disrupted following landslides in Bandipur-1, Gurdum and Bandipur-4, Dumre. One person is missing when the landslides swept away two houses in Bandipur-4, Tamung, according to Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, Purna Singh Thapa. Five others were rescued in the incident. 


He said that the landslides took away three houses in Bandipur-3. The landslides triggered by incessant rainfall since Tuesday night in Myagde rivulet have inundated over 100 bighas of paddy field. Assessment of the loss and damage caused due to the flood and landslides is currently underway.
