Prisoner serving 10-year sentence dies during treatment

SUNSARI, Nov 10: A prisoner serving a 10-year jail term at Jhumka Prison in Sunsari has died during treatment. Fifty-three-year-old Sudhan Sardar was found unconscious inside the prison’s Block B at around 5:30 AM on Sunday.



He was immediately taken to Inaruwa District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:15 AM, according to Yogaraj Khatiwada, spokesperson for the Sunsari District Police Office.

Sardar had been suffering from diabetes and was taking medication regularly, police said.


According to Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire, Sardar had been serving his sentence at Jhumka Prison following a District Court order of September 19, 2023, which convicted him of human trafficking and handed down a 10-year imprisonment.
