KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Priests, who play a huge role in weddings, vowed to fight against child marriage, a social evil highly prevalent in Nepal, at a program organized by the Community Family Welfare Association and Care Nepal in Janakpur on September 9.

Mustafa Alam and Bijendra Jha, Muslim and Hindu priests respectively, said that they will spread awareness and help prevent child marriages, which are illegal in Nepal. A total of 15 VDCs in Dhanusha district are also taking initiatives to stop the practice.

South Asia has the highest number of child marriages in the world.
