KATHMANDU, Sept 10: The government has increased the salaries of top political executives of the country, including the president and the prime minister, members of parliament and the opposition leader, by 3.27 percent.
The cabinet meeting on September 2 took the decision to this effect, knowledgeable cabinet sources that sought anonymity fearing possible action for leaking the information, told myrepublica.com on Wednesday. [break]
According to the same decision, the salaries of the vice president, Constituent Assembly (CA) chairman and vice chairman, the deputy prime minister, ministers, state ministers, assistant ministers and the opposition leader have also been raised. Likewise, the pay of the CA chief whips and chairpersons of committees of the CA and parliament has been hiked. Even the salaries of the vice-chairperson and members of the National Planning Commission have been raised.
Though the decision was taken early this month, it has retroactive effect from July 16, the beginning of the current fiscal year, according to sources.
With the pay hike, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav will get Rs 72,800 as his monthly salary, Rs 2,080 up from his previous salary. The prime minister will draw Rs 36,920 monthly. His previous salary was Rs 35,500. Similarly, Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly Subas Nembang will get Rs 32,040 as monthly salary.
These top political executives enjoy all the other allowances besides the basic salaries mentioned above.
