KATHMANDU, Jan 8: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has expressed commitment to strictly follow the Diplomatic Code of Conduct during all his meetings with foreigners.

During a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha on Tuesday, President Yadav said he will hold meetings only with foreigners who come through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). [break]The president had immediately instructed Secretary Sheetal Babu Regmi at his office to make such an arrangement before fixing appointment with foreigners.

“The president has told me that the move taken by MoFA is very positive. He has assured me that he will strictly follow the code of conduct,” said Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha, who has been very particular about enforcing the diplomatic code of conduct.

On January 5, senior CPN-UML leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had informed the MoFA in advance about his with US envoy to Nepal Peter W Bodde.

When the envoy sought an appointment with him for Friday, Nepal had asked his assistant to inform the MoFA about his scheduled appointment. A MoFA official had reached his residence in Koteshwar for "note taking" when the envoy called on him Friday morning.
