The committee consists of representatives from the Department of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Nepal Police, Ministry of Health and Population, among others.
On Thursday, Nepal Police had detained e-commerce entrepreneurs and more than 90 delivery persons, claiming the business violated the prohibitory orders issued by the local administration. Following the incident, e-commerce businesses had demanded the government allow them to run the service by following all the necessary safety protocols.
During the meeting today, e-commerce businesses demanded the government allow them to operate their services from 5AM to 9PM.
“The Ministry of Health and Population has requested adults above 50 years of age not to come out of their houses due to risks posed by COVID-19. As a result, people have been stuck at home, so allowing delivery services at this time is a must,” said Sagar Dev Bhatta, a representative of e-commerce business.
He further added that delivery services have been operating businesses by following proper safety measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.
