President recommends swift justice for cooperative victims

According to the President’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokharel, the President directed the government to act seriously in ensuring the return of deposits belonging to small-scale savers and bring quick resolution to the ongoing crisis.

KATHMANDU, April 15: President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed concern over the growing problems in Nepal’s cooperative sector and instructed authorities to ensure swift justice for affected citizens.


During a meeting on Tuesday at the President's Office, Sheetal Niwas, with Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation Balram Adhikari and Secretary Arjun Prasad Pokharel, President Paudel emphasized the urgency of resolving issues in the cooperative sector.

According to the President’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokharel, the President directed the government to act seriously in ensuring the return of deposits belonging to small-scale savers and bring quick resolution to the ongoing crisis.


Minister Adhikari informed the President that 23 out of 47 centrally registered cooperatives have already been declared in crisis and that the government has resolved issues in three of them. Work is underway to address the remaining cases.


Thousands of cooperative victims have been protesting for months, demanding justice and return of their savings.
