KATHMANDU, Oct 31: President Ram Chandra Paudel is set to leave for Qatar on November 3 to participate in the Second World Summit for Social Development scheduled to take place in Doha from November 4 to 6.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), President Paudel is visiting Qatar at the invitation of Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Addressing a press conference organized at the MoFA on Friday, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai said President Paudel will lead a 12-member Nepali delegation to the global event.
'Qatar supports Visit Nepal 2020 Year initiative'
President Paudel is scheduled to address the plenary session and a high-level roundtable on November 4. He is also expected to hold meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Amir of Qatar, and other world leaders on the sidelines of the forum.
Briefing the press on Thursday, Secretary Rai said the summit aims to forge a collective commitment toward enhanced cooperation and support for social development. Discussions will focus on global development inequalities, demographic shifts, and the impact of technology on societies.
The first edition of the World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995.
President Paudel will be accompanied by his spouse, Sabita Paudel, Communications Expert to the President Kiran Kumar Pokharel, Secretary of the Office of the President, and senior government officials. The delegation is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on November 6.
