President Excellence Award for hardworking farmers

BANEPA, June 17: Three farmers of Kavre have received the district-level President Excellence Award in recognition of their exemplary performance in farming business.

Of the three recipients of the award, Upendra Prasad Timalsina of Ryaleh in Panauti-1, was awarded for his involvement and success in cardamom nursery, bee keeping and orange farming. Similarly, Bishnu Prasad Gautam of Anaikat-2, Panchkhal received the award for fruits nursery and IPM-based vegetable farming. 

Likewise, Sitaram Bhattarai of Sankhu-12 also received the award for orange farming and poly-house tomato farming.  

"I have employed 10 youths in the village. I believe in success through use of technology,” Bhattarai said, after receiving the award. Yogendra Karki, chief and deputy secretary at the Planning Division of the Ministry of Agricultural Development, handed over cash prize of Rs 10,000 per person and letter of appreciation to all three recipients.   

 “Agriculture GDP has recorded a growth of 5.38 percent because of contribution of farmers like you. Next year, we are expecting growth of 6 percent,” Karki told to Republica said.

 Fourteen farmers, including three women, had applied for the award, responding to a notice published by District Agriculture Development Office, Kavre. "Of them, three has been awarded," Krishna Dhital, an agriculture marketing officer, with District Agriculture Development Office, Kavre, said.
