The gifted carpet was specially made by Nepali craftsmen in Kathmandu at the instruction of President with a view to display it at the Qatari museum as an artistic creation of Nepali handicraft industry, the Embassy of Nepal in Doha said.
President Bhandari had an idea of making a gift of the carpet to the museum during her state visit to Qatar in October 2018. During her visit, President Bhandari had the opportunity to visit Museum of Islamic Art as great regard for the culture and heritage of the Qatari Society.
The carpet presented to the Museum by the President of Nepal represents the Nepali indigenous craftsmanship which represents a long history of Nepalese heritage. The carpet was entirely hand made with the finest Tibetan wool and the silk yarns. It was both handmade and hand-knotted with the pattern of rhododendron flower blossoms.
Rhododendron is the national flower of Nepal.
