KATHMANDU, Oct 9: A team led by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Kulman Ghising conducted a monitoring inspection of various sections of the BP Highway damaged by recent floods and landslides.
The minister-led team carried out the inspection as preparations are underway to operate the highway by constructing a temporary diversion on the approximately four-kilometre section damaged by the flood.

On the occasion, Minister Ghising urged engineers from the Department and construction entrepreneurs working in the field to ensure that this road—which serves as a lifeline connecting districts in Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces with the federal capital, Kathmandu—becomes operational as soon as possible.
The inspection team included Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Keshav Sharma and Director General of the Department of Roads Bijaya Jaisi.
Last year’s flood had damaged the Bhakunde–Nepalthok section of the highway. Although a temporary diversion had been constructed and transport resumed in that section, the recent flood washed away about four kilometres of the road again.
Minister Ghising’s private secretariat stated that contracts have already been awarded for the permanent reconstruction of roads in some sections damaged by last year’s flood, while the contracting process for additional sections is in its final stage.
