KAVREPALANCHOK, Oct 10: Vehicular movement along the BP Highway, which was severely damaged by last week’s floods, is set to resume from Saturday morning after the completion of diversion works in several affected sections.
A major diversion is being built on the Kavrepalanchok section of Chauki Danda by redirecting the Roshi river, enabling temporary traffic flow. Senior Divisional Engineer at the Divisional Road Office, Bhaktapur, Suman Yogesh, said that a track has already been opened from Chauki Danda in Namobuddha Municipality-6 to Chiuribas in Roshi Rural Municipality.

“The plan is to complete the track opening across all damaged sections by this afternoon. Once it’s ready, we will conduct test runs with vehicles after reassessing the road’s condition. The highway will be fully operational from Saturday morning,” he said.
Flooding from the Roshi River had washed away around four kilometers of road in the Roshi area. Construction of the diversion began on Tuesday, with nearly two dozen machines mobilized since Thursday afternoon to speed up the work.
The highway suffered damage at 17 different locations due to floods and landslides. A similar incident last year had also forced the construction of temporary diversions to keep the road partially operational.
