NEW DELHI, Feb 20: The newly appointed minister, Ganga Lal Tuladhar, has said that the ongoing tussle for power among the political parties in Nepal will go on for at least six more months given the misunderstanding and distrust among the leaders.

While speaking at a function organized in New Delhi on the ocassion of Democracy Day, Tuladhar said, "Although there is no alternative to national consensus on key issues, the ongoing fight will linger for another six months," adding, "It would be appropriate to have a Maoist-led government but due to the infighting among and between the parties we have come to lead the government for the second time as well." Significantly, he commented, "There is every possibility that even for the third time the government may be formed under the leadership of our party (UML)."

Tuladhar, however, added that such bickerings are "natural" as Nepal is passing through transition. He added that the priority of the new government under Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal is to draft the constitution on time and complete the peace process.

The Democracy Day was marked in New Delhi on Saturday at the Nepal Embassy. Speaking on the ocassion, envoy Rukma Shumsher Rana said that many important works have remained incomplete due to political instability back home.

Recalling his childhood days, Rana said that Democracy Day holds special significance. "This was the day my family and myself went back home in 2007 BS," Rana remarked.

Also speaking during the event were Nepali Congress representatives Bal Krishna Pandey, General Secretary of Nepalese Migrant Association, Guru Prasad Sharma, and Pramod Kharel of Everest Chamber of Commerce.

The speakers expressed dissatisfaction at the political bickerings among the top leaders in Nepal.

They said that even when their respective organizations have assisted the parties in all the struggles for democracy and provided them with shelter outside the country, the politicians have failed to deliver effectively and live up to the expectations of the general public.

They stressed on the need to focus on economic development and creating job opportunities at home so that the youth do not leave the country in search of opportunities abroad.
