MYAGDI, July 23: The western belt of Myagdi district has witnessed power supply disruption for the last 15 days after the flood and landslides washed away the electricity transformer, transmission lines and dozens of electric poles.

It is said that the power supply is severely affected in Mangala, Malika, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities.

According to Bani-based distribution centre of Nepal Electricity Authority, power supply was halted after the flooding and landslides occurred on July 9 damaged the main and distribution lines of the electricity.

Officials said that people's normal life, service delivery from banks and cooperatives, and other services have been severely affected for lack of power supply.  With the halt in power supply, the mobile phone services of Nepal Telecom and Ncell are affected.

Chief of the distribution centre, Madhav Mahat, shared that maintenance of the transmission line is delayed for difficulties in transporting the transformers, poles and wires for disruption of Beni-Darbang road section. Mahat, however, said that efforts are underway to resume the power supplies in all sites.

Chairman of Annapurna Rural Municipality Dam Bahadur Pun said that industries and hotel businesses in the rural municipality have suffered badly for lack of regular power supplies.

Meanwhile, the landslides and flooding triggered due to the torrential rainfall have damaged the road links to different places in the district for almost two weeks on. Though the roads were maintained in some places to resume the vehicular movement, most of the roads in the rural areas are still out of services.
