After the price revision, the prices of B1 category, B2 category and B3 category feeds--which are fed according to the age of the chicken-- reached Rs 28.70, Rs 28.70 and Rs 27.30 per kg respectively.
“Due to the skyrocketing prices of the raw materials that go into producing the feeds, we have no option but to raise the prices of feeds,” said Narayan Hari Khatri, president of the Nepal Feed Industries Association.
More than 60 percent of the raw materials used in the feeds are imported from India, and the feeds are used by more than 100 feed industries across Nepal. The Nepali feed industries turn these raw materials into poultry feed and sell the product in the market: every day about 1,100 tons of poultry feed, a quantity almost sufficient to fulfill domestic demand, is produced in the country.
