“Narayan collected Rs 200-400 from each household. Some locals even borrowed money to pay to him. The victims, however, are yet to receive relief materials,” locals claimed.
Ramsnehi Sah, a local claimed that Narayan duped the villagers saying that they needed a referral letter from the police to get relief materials and asked them to pay money for it.
Bimala Devi, another local, said that the policeman took Rs 400 from her.
The locals, who have been living in the Village Development Committee (VDC) building and schools after the flood swept away their houses, went to the District Administration Office on Friday to lodge complaints against Narayan. However, the victims had to return home disappointed as the Chief District Officer (CDO) was out of the office to attend a security meeting.
A majority of the victims claim that they have not received relief materials. “We have not received relief materials as the CDO and other officials are hardly ever in the office,” said Dayanath Sada of Ankar.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Gautam, however, claimed that he was ignorant about the victims´ plight. “I have not received any complaints regarding collection of money from the flood victims," Gautam said adding, “We will launch an investigation after receiving formal complaints. If found guilty we will punish the culprit.” More than 2,000 families of Ankar and Bhatuliya were displaced by the floods in Rato River.
