SIRAHA, Oct 19: In the wake of clashes between cadres of different political parties and attacks on candidates, the District Police Office has cautioned the latter not to carry out election campaigns during the night without informing the security agencies.

Siraha District Police has issued circulars to all poll candidates urging them to carry out their election campaigns only during day time and inform the security agencies in case the programs do not conclude before nightfall, according to Chief of the district police SP Purna Chandra Joshi. The circular was issued after a vehicle used by Satrudhan Singh Koiri, the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) candidate for the constituency 4 in the district, was vandalized by Nepali Congress cadres on Thursday night.

Similarly, Aasha Pal, a candidate of Sanghiya Sadbhawana Party, was manhandled near Dharan along the East West Highway by an unidentified group on Friday night.

With increasing incidents of poll-related clashes, the police have stepped up security. “We are sensitive toward the security of candidates. But, they should also take precautions for their own safety,” said SP Joshi.

Joshi also urged all to remain cautious as poll opposing groups may take advantage of clashes between political parties.
