Police have decided to send the case to court after failing to arrest the accused Deepak Shrestha. Kajal had gone with friends Poonam Shrestha and Meena Shrestha to their maternal relatives in Jogbani last month. [break]
The Shresthas in Jogbani say that Kajal had diarrhea and passed out in the night and her father Shyam Singh Raut buried her without letting the police know about it.
But Kajal´s family claim that she was murdered by Deepak Shrestha after rape. The body was exhumed for autopsy two weeks later following Kajal´s family complaint against Deepak.
The viscera of her body have been taken to Kathmandu by the relatives for further investigation after the autopsy conducted at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan could not reveal the cause of death.
“We have decided to go to the court as the last ditch effort to try to solve the case,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Revati Dhakal said. “It is the only way to decide the case as Deepak has been absconding,” DSP Dhakal added.
Dhakal said the court verdict will also decide the fate of Deepak´s father Bir Bahadur, mother, and Kajal´s friends Poonam and Meena, all of whom have been detained since the complaint was lodged by Kajal´s relatives. Poonam and Meena have admitted with the police that Deepak was with Kajal the night she was killed.
“Our demand is to get Deepak arrested at any cost. We would stage protests if he is not nabbed,” warned Kajal´s elder sister Rajani.
Meanwhile, the police suspect that Deepak may have fled to India.
