Spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk,  Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Niranjan Bhattarai, said that they suspect a vehicle might have plunged into the Bhotekoshi River at Bahrabise Municipality-6 on Friday afternoon.

“A vehicle tire has surfaced in the river leading to suspicion of a mishap,” DSP Bhattarai told Republica, “A swollen river following heavy rain has impeded the pace of the search operation. We haven’t identified the vehicle that has plunged in, or the number of passengers onboard.”

He added that a joint team of the Nepalese Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) along with teams of divers are conducting the search operation to locate the vehicle. He added that two technically-advanced cranes have also been used in the search operation.

According to DSP Bhattarai, the police have not yet received any formal complaint of missing vehicles or people. “One point of optimism in all this confusion is that we have not yet received any missing report,” he told Republica.
