KATHMANDU, Oct 19: ALTUS Global Alliance, a global alliance working to improve public safety and justice, and the Conflict Study Center are jointly organizing a week-long Police Station Visitors´ Week from Monday to assess the quality of service at police offices.

During the week, the Alliance and Conflict Study Center are visiting 10 police stations, namely Balaju, Bouddha, Bhaktapur, Gausala, Humandhoka, Kalimati, Lalitpur, Maharajgung, New Baneswor and Singha Durbar, to assess the quality of service the police offices offer the public. [break]

A group of citizens will visit the police offices for first hand information on community orientation, physical condition, equal treatment to the general public, detention conditions, transparency and accountability, according to a statement from Conflict Study Center.

"The overarching goal of the program is to measurably improve the quality of local police service according to international standards as interpreted by local communities, especially those who are poor and marginalized. This helps them identify some of the good practices being used by police, and strengthens the accountability of police to the local citizens," the Center further said.
