Police seizes over 25,000 liters of fuel from illegal peddlers

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: Metropolitan Police Kathmandu has seized around 25,000 liters of petroleum products on Thursday from various entry points to the Kathmandu Valley from people who intended to sell the fuel at higher prices in the black market. 
 
According to Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas were being brought into the Valley in passenger buses, micro buses, pickup trucks, jeep and mobile vans, among others.

Following complaints from various sources, police carried out searches in the vehicles entering Kathmandu.

“As per the government's instruction to control black market of fuel, we have been keeping a close watch on such activities and arresting those involved in the crime,” SP Bishwo Pokharel, spokesperson of the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Teku, said.

The police have arrested Lok Bahadur Karki of Sindhuli district on the charge of selling 25 cooking gas cylinders at prices higher than the market rate. The police also arrested Prem Dahal of Morang, Palpa Chaudhary and Rekha Lopchan of Parsa for illegal peddling in petro-products.

In the raids carried out on Thursday, the police confiscated 15,980 liters of diesel, 7,502 liters of petrol, 2,573 liters of kerosene and 37 cooking gas cylinders.

Similarly, Metropolitan Police Range Offices in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur also seized a huge amount of petroleum products and arrested some of the people allegedly involved in trying to sell the fuel in black market.
