Police seize 2,000 kilos of Chhurpi in Ilam

MANGALBARE, March 23: Police have seized 2,000 kilograms (40 sacks) of Chhurpi (a traditional hard cheese mostly consumed in the Himalayan region of Nepal) being unlawfully smuggled into Ilam.

MANGALBARE, March 23: Police have seized 2,000 kilograms (40 sacks) of Chhurpi (a traditional hard cheese mostly consumed in the Himalayan region of Nepal) being unlawfully smuggled into Ilam. 


The huge quantity of cheese worth Rs 1.9 million was recovered from the Mechi Highway at Rong Rural Municipality-4, Jorkalas.

According to the Area Police Office Pashupatinagar, the illegally-trafficked cheese was seized from a Bolero jeep (Province 1-01-001 Cha 9219). 


A team from the police post, Kiteni, detected the cheese product inside the Ilam-bound jeep from Jhapa in the course of security screening on Tuesday. 


Police said jeep driver Nima Tamang of Suryodaya Municipality-2 of Ilam was handed over to the Itahari-based Revenue Investigation Office for further investigation.
