KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal has said that the police stationed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) would play an important role in making the Visit Nepal 2020 a success. Nepal is marking Visit Nepal in 2020 with an objective of attracting more than 2 million foreign tourists to Nepal.

Inspecting the only international airport of the country on Thursday, IGP Khanal underscored the need for the police persons to provide service to the needy ones in a prompt, swift and convenient manner. "One can gauge whether the Visit Nepal 2020 was a success or not through the services provided by the police. Towards this end, police should ensure quality services for the tourists visiting Nepal," Khanal reiterated, sharing that tourists would get a clue what Nepal was like from their first step in the airport they land.

Pointing out the need to pay special attention to ensure sanitation at the airport, he said that the Police Headquarters was serious about the capacity building of the police persons deployed at the TIA. According to him, the police persons should show courtesy and professionalism to foreign visitors. Stating that the smuggling of gold and electronic goods had increased via TIA lately, he instructed the security personnel to curb the illegal activities.

Taking stock of the security measures put in place at TIA, he also instructed the staff to address the complaints of luggage handling as well.
