"Police ready for election polls"

KATHMANDU, June 20: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nawaraj Silwal, newly appointed spokesperson, on Thursday said that it was ready for ensuring safety and security to conduct new election of the Constituent Assembly in a fair manner. [break]



A day after resuming his office as a police spokesperson, DIG Silwal organizing a press meet at Police Headquarters, said that police was all set for the election despite political parties are yet to decided on contentious political issues. He said, "I don´t think the political parties will have serious problems till the election poll dates. If parties will resolve issues on time we are all prepared for the election."



As per the government´s decision we are in ready position to deploy the police forces on various levels for making conducive environment for holding the election, he added. Of the total strength we are to deploy 80 % force, that is estimated to be over 53,000, for the election, further he said, but the strength might vary if Nepal Army and Armed Police Force will be deployed. If NA will not be deployed then we are certain to recruit additional temporary police, with the priority for the ex-service men of the army or police.



Proper deployment of security personnel can only conduct the election in fair and fearless manners so government is mulling down on the formation of integration of election strategic policy, he informed. "We have identified some areas of security sensitivity and planned accordingly with the cordial support of the government´s other stakeholders to hold election," he said.



Talking about the emerging crime patterns he said, "With the changes in dimension of crime, there have been security challenges. And we now need to adopt strategic plans in order to tackle the changing dimension of the crime patterns." In the press conference, he informed the press on the basis of police experts about the declining kidnap and homicides with the increment of crimes rates regarding owner´s killing women violence and caste based discriminations.
