BANKE, Sept 22:Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav today said the Election Commission was ready to hold local body election within the stipulated timeframe (mid-April) if political parties found a consensus on it.

"And on the part of the Commission, it is ready internally and technically to hold the election," he said.

The Commission has also made an election action plan towards that end, he said while speaking at a press conference in Nepalgunj, Banke.

Saying five drafts of the law required to hold the election have already been forwarded to the government, he said it would not become difficult to hold the election once all political parties agree to it.

"All levels of elections will be held in the set timeframe (17 months remaining) once political parties are committed to it. The Commission can organise the elections within 90 to 120 days of the beginning of the election process," he said.

Yadav also emphasised the need for providing the authority to the Commission to set the date for the elections, a shift in setting election date, arguing that it would make the elections easier.

In a different context, he said the Commission would respond sternly to those political parties and their leaders who fielded their candidacy in previous elections but were yet to furnish the details of expenditure on elections. RSS
