KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday consulted with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ayodhee Prasad Yadav regarding preparations of the Election Commission (EC) to hold local polls.
Press Advisor to the Prime Minister, Govinda Acharya told Republica Online that PM Dahal and CEC Yadav discussed the matters related to the polls at Baluwatar, the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Saying that the government is preparing to announce the polls at the soonest, PM Dahal asked with CEC Yadav if EC is capable of holding the polls by May last.
In reply, CEC Yadav said that all the needed infrastructures are in place, adding that EC needs four months for preparation.
The Prime Minister said that the three major political parties have already agreed to hold local polls, adding that the government will reach an accord with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) soon on holding the polls.
