KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Nepal Police Headquarters has issued a circular instructing senior police officers, who were deployed in Kathmandu during the September 8 and 9 Gen Z protests, not to leave the Kathmandu Valley.
According to the circular, the headquarters on Sunday sent a letter to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, directing the office to ensure that the then in-charges of the Valley Police Office, as well as the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur district police offices, remain within the Valley.

The directive comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led probe committee, which was formed by the government to investigate the human and property losses during the Gen Z protests and to identify those involved in the vandalism.
The Karki-led Commission had earlier written to the police, requesting that all police personnel appear before the committee whenever summoned. The latest letter from police headquarters also mentions that the commission may summon former in-charges deployed in the most affected areas at any time.
Earlier, the commission had imposed a travel ban and frozen the passports of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, citing similar reasons.
