JANAKPUR, March 20: Police beat up local journalists Friday morning while the latter were covering vote counting of Free Students´ Union (FSU) election underway at Ramswarup Ramsagar Multiple Campus.



Police attacked local journalist Bikash Sah with gun butts and snatched camera of journalist Suresh Yadav of Myrepublica.com and a local FM. Police also beat up another journalist Santosh Yadav. Bikash and Santosh sustained minor injuries in police attack. The camera was later returned to Suresh.

Police attacked journalists when the media persons were taking photographs of clashes between students and police. Students clashed with police as they protested demanding regular update of vote counting results and representation of all the student organizations at the counting place.


The nationwide FSU elections took place on Thursday with sporadic clashes at several colleges.

Dhanusha chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists has demanded action against the guilty police personnel.
