KATHMANDU, July 25: Two individuals have been apprehended by the police on the charge of fraud after allegedly setting up a fictitious office under the guise of the World Food Program.


The suspects have been identified as Ghanshyam Katuwal, also known as Jairam KC (47), a resident of Sindhupalchok Melamchi Municipality-9, currently residing in Gokarneshwor Municipality-8, Kathmandu, and Lila Bahadur Bholon, also known as Dinesh (40), a resident of Bagmati Rural Municipality-9, Makwanpur, residing in Budhanilkantha Municipality-5, Kathmandu.

According to Central Police Spokesperson Kuber Kadayat, the fraudulent operation was carried out from a rented house in Budhanilkantha by creating fake employee identities. The suspects were found to have forged stamps and letterheads of the World Food Program to deceive others.


Following a tip-off on June 12 regarding fraudulent tender advertisements published in various national dailies, a joint police team from District Police Range Kathmandu and Police Circle Maharajgunj conducted an investigation and arrested the suspects from Bhaktapur.


During the operation, the police recovered significant evidence, including Rs 200,000 in cash, national flags of Nepal, one set of stamps with "International Food Security Program" inscribed on them, three sets of letter pads, one set of files, one set of attendance account, one set of whiteboard, board nameplate, table name plate, rent agreement, various stationery items, various furniture items, four printers, four computers, and purchase order paper.


The arrested individuals have been remanded for five days by the District Court Kathmandu to facilitate further investigations into their fraudulent activities. Additionally, the police are actively searching for three other fugitives allegedly involved in this incident.
