Shanker Group vice chair Sulav Agrawal arrested for overpricing China-made thermal guns

KATHMANDU, April 7: Vice chairperson of Shanker Group Sulav Agrawal was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of black marketing China-made thermal guns which are widely used to prevent the coronavirus.

According to the Metropolitan Police chief Sahakul Thapa, Agrawal was found selling thermal guns at Rs 15,000 each in Kathmandu. However, the branded thermal guns are valued at Rs 3500 each in the market. "Agrawal was arrested for overpricing thermal guns," SSP Thapa told Republca Online.

The police have seized 67 units of China-made thermal guns in possession of Agrawal. He was arrested from Naxal.

Handheld, non-contact infrared thermometers, or “temperature guns”, have emerged as a popular device around the world to screen people for fevers during coronavirus outbreak. He had imported seven tons of medical equipment including thermal guns from China recently.

Agrawal is also the executive director of Jagdamba Synthetics Private Limited and honorary consul of Kyrgystan to Nepal.
