KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Police have arrested 27 activists affiliated with Amnesty International Nepal who had reached the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to submit a memorandum protesting the raid on Bengaluru-based Amnesty’s office by the Indian authorities last month.

Rajan Kuikel, the immediate past president of AI Nepal chapter, told Republica Online that 27 human right activists were arrested near the Indian Embassy and taken to Metropolitan Police Circle, Sorhakhutte on Friday morning .

The Amnesty International has faced criticism in India for violating foreign direct investment guidelines, according to Indian media reports.

The Indian agencies had seized bank accounts of the AI office in Bengaluru barring the organisation from carrying out human rights works, the AI said.
