Pokharel appeals to draft statute on time

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel said that democracy will be at risk if parties fail to promulgate a new constitution by Jestha 14, the extended deadline set by the Constituent Assembly to draft a constitution.



At a tea party organised in Kathmandu on Monday to congratulate newly elected representatives of UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Student Union, he said decentralised system of governance should have effected in the country by ending centralised system of governance.  [break]



But that could not happen due to snail-paced army integration and peace process, he said.



Wishing new ANNFSU officials a successful tenure, he said that the student union should face the challenges of the education sector.



At the programme, UML central member Keshav Badal, former Chairman of Nepal Bar Association Bishwo Kanta Mainali and Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Madhav Sharma stressed for establishing peaceful environment in educational institutions.



New ANNFSU Chairman Madhav Dhungel said quality education was the main agenda of his student union.
