KATHMANDU, Aug 26: At a time when the country is all set to stage a parliamentary election to pick a new executive head, caretaker Prime Minister Jhalanth Khanal said on Friday the PM race for a majority government would mean little for completing the pending tasks of peace and constitution writing.

Speaking at a meet on academic reforms in the capital, PM Khanal said the run-up to a majority government would not help complete the peace process and constitution writing task as the last three majority governments visibly failed to accomplish the twin tasks. [break]

Describing the race for PM to lead a majority government as a futile act, PM Khanal said the parties could still try for a consensus government even within the procedure for a majority government.

On the occasion, he also expressed his concerns about the dispute over appointments of office bearers at various universities and about stockholders resorting to strike seeking their shares in the name of the political parties they represent.
