KATHMANDU, June 2: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will visit Switzerland, United Kingdom, and France from June 8 to 15, Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali confirmed on Sunday.
This will be the Oli’s second visit to Europe since he came to power in February 2018. In January this year, Oli had visited Davos, Switzerland to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
Leading a high-powered Nepali delegation, the prime minister will leave home for Geneva, Switzerland on June 8.
PM Oli leaves Doha for Geneva
In Geneva, Prime Minister Oli will address an event to mark the centenary celebrations of the International Labor Organization on June 10, according to Gyawali.
During his stay in Geneva, Oli will hold talks with Swiss Interior Minister Alain Berset, who is also the former president of the country. Apart from official engagements, Oli will meet the Geneva-based Nepali community.
Concluding his Switzerland visit, Oli will leave for the United Kingdom and meet UK Prime Minister Theresa May on June 11. Oli is also scheduled to deliver a lecture at Oxford University and interact with Nepali diaspora.
Then Oli will leave for France on June 12. He will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, according to Gyawali. The prime minister will attend a special event to mark the establishment of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and France.
The prime minister’s entourage will have 27 members. Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Labor Minister Gokarna Bista, Prime Minister’s spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, Labor Secretary Mahesh Dahal, Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Advisor Bishnu Rimal and Foreign Affairs Advisor Rajan Bhattarai will be part of the prime minister-led delegation.
Other members of the delegation include PM's Press Advisor Aryal, President of the Parliament’s Labor Committee Bimal Srivastav, Parliamentarian Binda Pandey, Chief of Protocol Gahendra Raj Rajbhandari, Joint secretaries of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bharat Raj Paudyal and Ghanshyam Bhandari, Prime Minister’s private secretary Rajesh Bajracharya, three journalists from state-owned media, three security personnel, and a doctor and among others.
