KATHMANDU, Aug 31: More than Rs 5.024 billion has been collected in the Prime Minister's Natural Disaster Relief Fund so far.
The Fund, established by the government to support survivors of the recent floods as well as other natural disasters, recorded a total of Rs 5.0246 billion to date, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM).
The amount was deposited into the Fund through contributions from several individuals and institutions at home and abroad.
Disaster Management Fund to get Rs 1 billion
The OPMCM further said financial contributions to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund and the Prime Minister Relief Fund have been increasing as support pours in for people affected by the recent Bhotekoshi floods as well as other disasters.
Also, the incumbent government has launched a 'Rescue Request Portal' to make the details of contributions received through both Funds publicly available so as to ensure transparency in the collection and use of relief funds. As of Sunday noon, these funds had been deposited into accounts maintained at nine commercial banks.
An additional USD 2.1 million has been deposited into accounts at Himalayan Bank and Laxmi Bank, the PMO notified.
Against this backdrop, the government has urged the public and organizations wishing to provide financial assistance to donate only through the officially published QR code and bank accounts bearing the names 'Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund' and 'Prime Minister's Relief Fund'.
The appeal is made to ensure transparent and proper use of donations, effective management of relief resources and protection against possible financial fraud. Detailed information on the official bank accounts and other means of contributing has been made available on the OPMCM's official website.
