Inaugurating the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of The South Asian Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC) hosted by the Government of Nepal here today, the Prime Minister said Nepal has a challenge to fight child marriage, child labor, child trafficking and other inhumane activities. Nepal has been prioritizing rehabilitation of children affected by conflicts, natural disasters and effects of climate change, he said.
He vowed to control and minimize the incidents of violence against children in line with the commitment of the United Nations and the SAARC. “I hope that the campaign against violence against children will be successful since 4,000 child clubs, development partners, INGOs and informed civilians are active in the country in this regard.”
He also urged ministers and representatives of SAARC member countries taking part in the regional meeting to help make the campaign successful.
On the occasion, Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Sarwadev Prasad Ojha said, “Collaboration and cooperation are keys to ending violence against children in SAARC region.”
Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare Mahendra Prasad Shrestha said SAIEVAC provides specific actions for governments in SAARC region and offers practical indicators.
Ministers, top government officials, children and their guardians from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan and the Maldives are taking part in the meeting.
