PM assures to save life of Nepali in death row in Malaysia

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has said that the government would leave no stone unturned to save the life of Hari Bahadur Ghale, who is currently in death row in Malaysia for drug smuggling .



Bhattarai assured Ghale´s kin, who came to Kathmandu all the way from Barsunchet VDC-1, Nuwakot district to seek his help. "I have taken the matter seriously. I will leave no stone unturned to save your grandchild," Ghale´s brother Tek Bahadur quoted the prime minister as saying to his grandfather Dhan Bahadur.[break]



Dhan Bahadur along with his son Tek Bahadur and the victim´s daughter Jharana had a meeting with Bhattarai at his office in Singha Durbar, Tuesday. The prime minister assured the victim´s family that he would talk to President Ram Baran Yadav.



Ghale could get clemency from Malaysian king if Nepalese government initiated diplomatic efforts to save his life.



On September 25, the Supreme Court of Malaysia upheld the death sentence handed down by local Jalan Duta High Court in Kuala Lumpur on November 26, 2009. Ghale was arrested on May 30, 2003 from a hotel in possession of 875 grams of heroin Ghale has denied the drug belonged to him and maintained one Ganesh Tamang was the real owner.
