KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The use of small arms (pistols) in criminal activities has been increasing in Mahottari in recent times. According to the District Police Office, 11 small arms and only five large arms were used in various criminal incidents in Mahottari in the past three fiscal years.
According to District Police Office Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Santulal Prasad Jaiswar, seven small arms and 19 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from criminals engaged in various criminal incidents in the district in just six months of the current fiscal year 2081/82.

Similarly, the District Police Office has arrested five people with small arms and filed a case against them for arms and ammunition. The District Police Office has seized three small arms and one loaded gun, along with nine rounds of ammunition, in the fiscal year 2080/81.
In the fiscal year 2080/81, the police arrested eight people with weapons. Four people have been charged with weapons and ammunition. Similarly, in the fiscal year 2079/80, the District Police Office had seized one pistol and four loaded guns, along with 37 rounds of ammunition.
Out of the five people arrested with weapons, three have been charged with offenses for carrying illegal weapons and ammunition, said spokesperson Jaiswar. He said that criminals have been using small arms more in recent criminal activities as they are easy to carry and conceal.
