As FNJ gears up for its general convention slated for March 22-23 in Pokhara, National Disabled Journalists´ Association (NDJA) in an interaction held in Kathmandu demanded that their umbrella organization reserve seats for physically challenged journalists in its central and district-level executive committees. [break]NDJA also urged FNJ to revise its statute for inclusion of physically challenged journalists.
“If FNJ does not revise its statute, it would be meaningless for us to remain as members of the organization,” said Rabin Thapaliya, chairman of NDJA.
According to Thapaliya, more than 70 physically challenged journalists are now associated with NDJA. “There may be more disabled journalists who are yet to join us,” said he. “We will resign en masse if our demands are not met.”
Yasoda Timsina, vice president and coordinator of a statue revision committee of FNJ, assured that the proposal for ensuring inclusion of physically challenged would be tabled at the FNJ general convention to be held in Pokhara.
Earlier, NDJA had submitted a memorandum to FNJ president Shiva Gaunle.
