LALITPUR, May 14: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama has called for equal opportunities and inclusive policies in line with constitutional provisions, emphasizing the need to prioritize gender inclusion in budget formulation.

Speaking at an orientation on social inclusion organized for the female members of the provincial assembly by the Provincial Governance Center in Lalitpur, Lama said the program aimed to promote gender equality and inclusion in policy making and budgeting.

“With significant participation of women in the provincial assembly, we expect a major leap in inclusion. The knowledge gained through this orientation will help ensure equality among all groups, communities, castes, and genders,” Lama said.

Speaker of Bagmati Provincial Assembly Bhuwan Kumar Pathak described the program as timely, as it precedes the province’s policy and budget announcement. “Inclusion is a key feature of our constitution. While 33 percent representation of women in all state bodies is a positive step, internal inequalities among women remain a challenge. The focus now should be on economic empowerment alongside representation,” he added, stressing the need to push female representation to 51 percent.

Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagai said a positive mindset enables women to fulfill responsibilities effectively. She emphasized that such orientations would contribute to making policies and budgets more gender-friendly.

Executive Director of the Provincial Governance Center, Gopal Krishna Nyaupane, said the event was aimed at supporting inclusive policy and budget-making in line with the constitutional principles of inclusion.
