KATHMANDU, June 3: Photo.circle, a platform for photography and photographers in Nepal has revived their monthly photo presentations after three years from June 2 at their regular venue Bakery Cafe Sundhara.

“The presentations were discontinued due to some technical reasons and we’d like to say we took a jump rather than discontinuing the presentations,” said NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, the director of photo.circle. [break]

They were organizing such event every first Saturday of every English month and it was stopped for few years back due to some technical

reasons.

Starting photo.circle.li this time around were Rohan Thapa, a Nepali photographer based in Valencia, and Spanish photographer Arantxa Cedillo who is who is currently based in Kathmandu and has been widely showcased in galleries around the world.

The photographers along with making their presentations shared some tips on how to be a good photographer. Cedillo after the presentation shared, “Working ethically with respecting working environment and finding the tools would help any photographer to be a professional.”

Titled ‘Nepal-Spain Cultural Criss-Cross’, Thapa presented his pictures, which he chose to call black mirage, under the titled “Barcelona Burning” which focused on the Spanish protest against the financial crisis.

Thapa is of the belief that photography is the way a photographer looks at the world. “Photographers should give their audience some space to imagine while reflecting the reality,” he shared. Cedillo made three presentations which were about an emergency room in Spain, Bunong people from Cambodia and about a Cambodian child.

On being asked by a member of the audience why photographers are attracted to ‘misery photography’, Thapa answered, “The human mind is easily attracted to sad things easily and most photographers want to capture those moments in their camera.”

Photo.circle will be continuing its monthly presentations from now onwards and the next one is scheduled for July 7. For more information concerning the presentations and other photo.circle activities visit www.photo.circle.com.np.
