KATHMANDU, June 30: The Election Commission on Thursday revised the voter turnout in the second phase of the local elections to 73.7 percent. The commission said the revision was based on the final details sent by the district election offices. On Wednesday evening, the commission had put the voter turnout at 70.5 percent.
"Today we received details from all districts and now the voter turnout has been revised to 73.7. Voter turnout remained almost same in both the elections," said Election Commission Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.
District Election Offices were not able to report the EC on Thursday as voting was underway till the evening in some polling centers in Morang and Rupandehi districts.
A total of 73.4 percent voters of the total had appeared in the first round of elections conduced in 283 local units of Province 3, 4 and 6.
EC reports 65% voter turnout
The election body has lauded voters' active participation in the polls despite rains and threats from poll-opposing parties.
By Thursday evening, the election body had completed the task of ballot box collection except from one polling center of Taplejung. "Helicopter could not land there due to bad weather. We will transport the ballot boxes only on Friday morning," said Spokesperson Sharma stating that vote counting has already started in 307 local units of the total 334.
