KATHMANDU, June 17: The supply of petroleum products in the Kathmandu Valley has been seriously affected due to a protest by the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association. On Sunday, long queues were seen at government-run petrol pumps, while private pumps have been closed since Monday morning.

At the Nepali Army petrol pump in Bhadrakali, people were seen standing in long lines, trying to refuel their vehicles. Many private sector pumps displayed 'no petrol' signs, causing a significant inconvenience.

The tanker drivers began their agitation on Sunday, presenting a seven-point demand. Their demands include appointment letters for all drivers and co-drivers as per the Labor Act, salary arrangements as mandated by the Nepal government, cancellation of double bank guarantees and annual renewals for self-employed drivers, proper temperature management, inclusion in the social security fund, and provision of risk allowances.

Due to the drivers' protest, the supply of petroleum products to private sector pumps has been halted, although government-run pumps continue to receive supplies. Nepal Oil Corporation has invited the drivers for negotiations to resolve the issue.
